Happy Canada Day [Jun. 30th, 2009|10:34 pm]
Happy Canada day to my great country. I love Canada so much and am so glad to have been born in a beautiful free country. Canadians have a lot to be proud of.
Long live Canada my home and native land.

the update [Mar. 28th, 2009|08:40 pm]
Work was a bit of a bear last night, I was waiting tables and had a big table of 15. Now, as a rule I don't like big tables simply because they are usually a party and where there are parties, there are drunk and obnoxious people. My theory held up well last night as this table was plenty obnoxious.
I am working a split shift tomorrow partly in the kitchen and partly as a waiter and then on Monday I have a chef meeting and a floor staff meeting-I need another vacation! Thank goodness I have Doncaster in April.
Also in work related news myself and another Chef are off to Northampton sometime in April to do a refresher/further my training course. I am always up for a little extra training so this could be cool.

the update [Mar. 26th, 2009|07:40 pm]
I had a great time in Canada and had done everything on my list at least once. I really love Canada and going back home was awesome.
I am back at work tomorrow and while its...work it should be nice to see the guys, especially the chefs.
So not much has been going on in my life, hopefully next week I will be taking my tests and if I pass I will be an official Pizza Chef-no certificate though.

R&R [Mar. 2nd, 2009|10:22 pm]
[Tags|]

What with the cross training, my first solo shift last week-which went fine, vouchers and the fact that I still have unused holidays I have decided to take some R and R and can think of no where better than Canada. I will be leaving March 11th for a couple of weeks with family and street vendor hot dogs!
I have an essential list of things I want to do:

Play Russian Bank with my Uncle

See my Grandma who I love and miss very much

Spend time with my cousin who I love and miss very much

Eat some Tim Bits, Pizza Pizza and street vendor hot dogs

Watch at least 1 old movie with my Uncle

Visit the Eaton centre

Walk around the city and admire the spectacle that is Toronto

In w(th the in crowd [Jan. 13th, 2009|11:04 pm]
As many people know, when I was younger, I wanted to be a chef but alas fate (and grades) stood in my way. When I worked in Leicester training for the opening of the Melton Pizza Express one night our head Chef Theo had a word with me. We talked about our lives and how we both have a passion for cooking. He told me that, if we weren't busy I could come in and he would show me the ropes. I took to it and some guys were suggesting I get cross trained. In Leicester the guys taught me a lot
Well, I decided after talking to the chefs that this was something I wanted to do and after months of asking next week I will be doing my first training shifts next week.

so long 2008 [Dec. 31st, 2008|10:29 am]
I mean frankly, I am surprised it latest this long without me firing it. Apparently there is a leap second this year meaning that 2009 does not officially start until 00:01 but I mean who cares? Its kinda like how until Jan 20th we have to call him President ELECT Obama but we all know whats going on.
I am working tonight and while I am not looking forward to it, I will enjoy it being over. Its kinda like working Christmas Eve in the sense that is was fun in a way that wasn't fun at all.
I am hoping to go home this Feb for a rest if I cannot make it, it will be Berlin and of course for some R and R there is always Doncaster.
Happy New Year!!

the update [Dec. 11th, 2008|12:40 pm]
I am still feeling a little ill as I've had a bit of a cold for the last week or so. 2 nights ago I had my (obligatory) staff party and it was as lame as staff parties are.
If anyone has not seen W I strongly reccomend it as it is a really good movie and a refreshing look at the life of George W Bush.
I am going to see Frost vs Nixon when it comes out as well, the movie about the famous Nixon interview.

the update [Nov. 20th, 2008|04:23 pm]
A quick recapp on events going on my world...

On Monday I am attending the funeral of Alex's step mother Elizabeth, she died about a week and a half ago and will be missed by many.

Yesterday was absolutly crazy. I spent the night with Alex and Craig in Doncaster and had to get to Melton before work at 11am. So I leave Bently at around 8ish to get a train to Grantham to get a bus to Melton and then go straight into work to say I was tired yesterday was an under statement. But it was totally worth it I had a great time with my buddies in Doncaster and I love that the 'Cross seems to be doing very little for Christmas.
Speaking of that holiday I am working Christmas eve and Boxing day and may even be working NYE and New Years day as well. While this will be VERY hard I am looking forward to the impact on my pay check.

the update [Oct. 12th, 2008|10:37 am]
Nothing to report at this time really. I am headding to Doncaster next weekend for 1PWs 3rd Anniversary show which should be extra extra special. I'll arrive Friday night and will most likely leave Monday at some time.
I of course have a list of things to do to make it a true Doncaster weekend and I shall share some of them with you.
A Doncaster weekend MUST involve:

A milkshake and the special milkshake place

A session at the 'Cross

Shopping-usually DVD or games

Another session at the 'Cross

Staying up waaay too late

Playing pool and video Clue-at the 'Cross

Watching cheesy TV

Rocking out to randomly selected music...from the jukebox*...at the 'Cross

Work is going OK but not great. We have a new menu which is nice but will take a while to get used to.
Thanksgiving is coming up and while I am stuck on this rock I am still looking forward to it. I have always loved Thanksgiving its got all the good food of Xmas but non of the crap. I even managed to get some pumpkin pie stuff and will look for some cranberries.
Interesting side note for British readers there are 2 Thanksgivings-a Canadian one which is 2nd Monday of October and an American one which is 3rd Thursday of November. For those wondering the Canadian one came first in the 16th Century when Martin Frobisher, looking for a new passage to the Orient wound uo in Canada and owing his survival to that fact held a feast of Thanksgiving.

*The jukebox is haunted and tends to play songs in its own order-many a time it will not actually play what you select.

(no subject) [Sep. 29th, 2008|12:07 pm]
What can I say? Doncaster was as it usually is, amazing. The show despite being in a flea pit was great, our friend Craig was great and the Hall Cross? Super great.
The only thing that was neither great nor super great was our trip back. I dunno why it is but I seem to have good trips up and bad trips back. Going up I arrive at Peterborough to find my train waiting for me with just enough tme to get on it.
Comming back Alex and I find ourselves trapped in Peterborough for about an hour-and thats about an hour more than I like to be in Peterborough for. We got back tired at around 9pm. It took us 4 hrs to get home.
Still despite having to go to the Granby and despite the long journey home it was totally worth it. Theres a certain magic about Doncaster one that has to be seen to be believed.
I am enjoying my time away from work, however I am sometimes bored during the day I must admit. Coming back will be a problem though as I still need mornings free to have my dressings changed which will be inconvient but necessary.

the update [Sep. 11th, 2008|01:11 pm]
Not much to update,
yesterday at work I was told that I achieved 92% on my mystery dinner evaluation-this has made the management dudes happy with me.
A trip to Berlin may be in future as many know it is my favourite European city-Germany is my favourite European country.
I am going to Doncaster hopefully in a couple of weeks to see 1PW Relentless-this is the first 1PW under the new management and many people are wondering what this new dream team have in store.
A rare thing has happened, I have Sat night off so Alex and I will have some time to hang out-will schenanigans ensue? Who knows!
I was talking to a former roomate of mine of Rhode Island persuation about the up comming US election. He is a huge Obama supporter and neither of us are too keen on Sarah Palin. I think that Palin will do her job which is to exite the conservative Republican base but lets face it-do those guys really want a chick in the White House? At the moment McCain is enjoying a post convention bounce and yet all the electoral college maps still have Obama taking the Presidency.
Then again who else was there-who else wanted the job? Romney-not a good friend of McCain and already thinking of 2012 does not want to be on a loosing ticket and be branded the John Edwards of the GOP so he is out and that leaves us with...uh....exactly.
All and all whetehr you like Palin or not I think that she was a good choice for McCain.

the wrap up [Jul. 7th, 2008|10:23 am]
Its been a while so I am going to go over a brief recap of whats up and whats been going down.

First off some sad news-my step Grandmother died. Ever classy, always a force to be reckoned with she will be missed by many and all.

On a lighter note July brings birthdays. Canada Day was of course on the 1st and then my sister turned 26 and today my friend Alex turns 24. I wish a happy birthday to all.
To celebrate Alex and I spent the last 2 days in Doncaster with our good friend Craig and had a great time as always.*

In October 2009 Alex and I might do a North American trip as there is a lot he wants to see. I am begging him not to include places like Florida but he won't listen to reason.

TNA comes back to town in January and our tickets are already booked promises to be a good show.

*I could have put more-including 8 year old pool sharks, glass balancing on one's head and the most obnoxious bus ride of all time but those are other stories for another post.

TNA Coventry [Jun. 16th, 2008|05:03 pm]
Alex and I got back from the TNA (Total Nonstop Action) wrestling show in Coventry and it was really good (the show part, not so much the Coventry part). It was interesting to see a big American event. TNA are coming back in January and I am going to see one of those shows to. Luckily this time they are coming to Birmingham which is easier to get to and from.

the update [Jun. 9th, 2008|02:08 pm]
Not to much to update. I got a job at restaurant as a waiter. I'll be honest and say at this stage of my life I consider this to be a step back at 23 but considering how well all me steps "forward" have been recently, perhaps a step back won't be too bad.
I am still looking for office work though and I'll see where life takes me. I really really want to go to Berlin again this year and might go in September-Alex will be done with OU so hopefully we can go together as I love Berlin and would love for him to see it to.
On Saturday Alex and I are going to Coventry to watch TNA Wrestling. While I admit I am not keen on ol' Total Nonstop Action I am looking forward to this because they are bringing over some real legends who I have never seen before.
Speaking of things I saw but was not really looking forward to-I went to see the Indiana Jones movie a couple of weeks ago and well, lets just say I wish I hadn't. I won't talk too much about it for those who have not seen it but want to but I will say that, while it does not taint the Indiana legacy it in no way lives up to it.

Mission impossible? Mission acomplished! [Jun. 5th, 2008|03:52 pm]
My tutor Tony called and after asking how he was told me that not only was he well-I was also. He then informed me that I have passed my level 2 OCR math exam meaning that in terms of GCSEs I now possess 4 in C or above(or equivalent).
I am so pleased that I have completed my mission and have beaten math a big thanks goes to all the people (living and dead) who have helped me.
Next stop is my NVQ.

the update [May. 29th, 2008|12:37 pm]
I'll be getting my results in about a week but I spoke to my tutor today and he is optimistic saying that I put the work in that I needed. I shall be visiting the center next week to talk to Lynn about starting my NVQ.
I have a job interview coming up. I hope I get it. As soon as I have the money I shall be heading to Doncaster and having some Doncaster fun.

the update [May. 22nd, 2008|01:28 pm]
well I have just done my test in Math and honestly I think this time I may have passed I mean I don't want to jinx it or anything but we'll see. I'll know in about 2 weeks.

Eurovision is this weekend which as always promises entertainment in one form or another.
I am undecided as to whether I wanna see the new Jones movie. I am a big Indiana Jones fan but it seems to be that Speilburg is doing this movie because no one has mentioned his name in a while. I mean Indiana Jones would be in his...what 60s now?

math...are you kidding me? [May. 1st, 2008|02:14 pm]
I just got back from the center Terry was there and was his helpful cheery self as usual-of course one can afford to be cheerful when one has the knowledge. Suffering and struggling through the sums I cam to a conclusion-math not only sucks but is useless in my every day life.
Consider the following problem:
I need to pave over 2 plots of land one is 2x3 m2 the other is 1.5x5 m2-what is the answer?
Heres my answer-why as the question? Why not hire someone to pave it over for me there by insuring that person has a pay check and keep another British job afloat? Doing it yourself is unpatriotic.
Long division? Multiplication? Calculator. People worked and slaved over inventing calculators so that we wouldn't have to. To not use one to me is disrespectful.
Algebra? To me algebra are numbers that hide behind letters making them cowards- and if there is 1 thing we need less of its cowardice.
But what really irks me about math is its conformist nature-let all think the same and do things in the same manner. This conformity seems a bit too familiar to me. And why do we need to know the temperature difference? I know if its hot or cold knowing that its 20 degrees in Morocco won't help me while I'm freezing my ass off in Canada.
I will prevail-math will loose this fight and I vow to learn math so that I can spend the rest of my life proving how pointless most of it really it is.

the update [Apr. 30th, 2008|02:50 pm]
I got back from the center today and am working quite well on my math. In a couple of weeks I may be ready to take my test and finally get my math qualification. The guy there Terry-from Glasgow is very nice and very helpful and we got on from the start.
I got turned down for a job as I appeared "nervous"...whatever.
I am so glad that Colbert is going to be on in the UK! FX will carry the show-take THAT "More" 4 lets see how well the Colbert juggernaut does in the ratings compared to whatever you're showing at 11pm-I don't even know what it is but I know it'll be GARBAGE compared to Colbert!
Colbert nation people-its taking over.

Ah 2008...2008...die jahre zwei tausend acht...please come in.
Uh Miss Taversham please hold all calls and uh make sure have a fresh P45 ready-I'll be needing that.
Now, 2008 you may recall a little while ago you and I had a little chat. How have things been for you since then? Wife OK? And the little "kinder"? Well unfortunately 2008 many board members are becoming increasingly unhappy with your performance-I know I know the guys upstairs right?
Now the good news-for you anyways is that I have convinced them to give you 1 last chance so straighten up and fly right!
